Researching Ancillary Products - analysis of three digipak [students]

In preparation to designing my own digipak as part of the artist production I went back to view/denotate/connotate some later students work.

This is personally my favourite student digipak. The colour scheme is amazing and has been consistently used through out the CD panels and the poster. The photos are really well taken (apart from the slightly blured one on the back of the CD panel) and show the artist in different personalities. The picture on the front of the CD is striking and beautiful. it is a powerful angled close up that promotes the artist brilliantly. I really do find that the photo at the back of the CD is the weakest. The photo inside the CD is again a striking beautiful picture that shows the artist smiling happily. Neither of the pictures have been stretched and have been cropped well enough to fit into the CD with out looking seriously blurred.

The digipak for this artist (Coco Blu) is again, like the digipak above really good. The colour scheme resembles a pantomime theme but really compliments the personality of the artist in the picture.  The colour scheme is used consistently in both the CD production and the poster. Another feature consistently used is the title of the artist. (Coco Blu) which is a really good way of getting fans and consumers to remember the artist visually. The layout on both digipak productions are excellent and there isn't an excess of fonts or pictures.

This digipak production is good but there are a few weaknesses that probably lowered the marks for the student who created it. The use of video shots that have been used on the CD panels is a weakness. using footage from the music video is a bad idea because they will not be in focus. As you can see on this production they had to use effects to make it look decent enough for them not to lose marks.
I always feel like the poster production was rushed. The use of the album picture being faded in the background of the poster makes it look rather tacky and repetitive. The could of possibly just used the album picture but made it big enough to fit the whole poster like in the Stephanie Jackson poster at the top.
They have used one of the same fonts that was used on the CD panels on the poster and that is a good way of the artist being recognized by consumers.
