Analysis of three magazine advertisements

Vibe Magazine:

Vibe is an entertainment and music magazine that was founded by Soul singer and music producer Quince Jones. The magazine mainly focuses on features from R&B and hiphop music artists, actors and other entertainers. During 2009 summer, the publication shut down, Vibe was bought by the private equity investment fund intermedia partners and is now issued quarterly with double covers with a large online presence, supported by the vibe lifestyle network, a group of entertainment/music websites under the brand vibe. The magazines target demographic is mainly young, urban followers of the hiphop culture. Well, Emine is urban and therefore will stereotypically attract people of this audience. Soul is a style that originated from African Americans and they'd be the type of audience that'll in many forms respect and appreciate it more, so as a result this will be useful for Emine who would be hoping to be featured on the front cover of this magazine. The magazine's success is down to featuring a broader range of interests than its closest competitors; The source & XXL who focus more narrowly on rap music, pop-centric or rock. During 2007, Vibe had a circulation of approximately 800, 000. Advertisers ran the gamut from record labels to fashion houses to various cognac brands. The magazine is based in New York but is published in numerous countries including the UK who have a wide readership. The target audience is lets say 12 - 24 year olds(but I did start reading it at an earlier age). This audience demographic is perfect as it relates to that of the age that Emine seeks to attract, hence at this age is when merchandise and stuff are bought and the artist would come across more relevant at this time to its fans ans supporters.

Essence magazine:

Essence is a monthly magazine that focuses on publishing for the attention of African-American women between the ages of 18-49. The magazine consists of sections about lifestyle, beauty and fashion as well as music(Jill Scott who is the second women above to grace the cover of Essence is also an Soul artist that is in many ways similar to Emine Parker). The magazine adopts an friendly attitude that imitates a girlfriend- to- girlfriend tone of voice and atmosphere. Essence is not only glossy print publication but it also touches a wide audience of music lovers as it hosts a three day festival event every fourth of July that more than 200, 000 people attend in New Orleans. It is known to be the nations largest annual gathering of African American music. There are cultural celebrations and empowerment seminars with nights of musical performances from the likes of Prince, Mary J Blige, Beyonce, Lionel Richie and many more. Unexpectedly, presidential candidates Hilary Clinton & Barack Obama made special appearances at the music festival in 2007 and in 2008, after partnering with Essence to develop a taped cobranded special presentation 'Black in America; reclaiming the dream', CNN reported live on- site throughput the festival weekend. So it would be fair to say that Essence do have a large following which would be a great thing for Emine Parker as she is a new emerging artist who needs to be recognised for her incredible talent. So yes! if Emine needed media coverage(which I know she would), I think Essence magazine would be perfect as its readership and following is massive ranging from different races, ages and gender.

Vogue magazine:

Vogue is a high status fashion and lifestyle magazine that is published monthly. The magazine has a high reputation amongst many important industry officials and also takes a great deal of focus on new and more accessible ideas of fashion for a wide audience base. Due to Vogues approach of welcoming new and old talent I believe this would be an perfect avenue for new talent Emine. Emine dons the style of a modern black Audrey Hepburn something that'll take alot of fashion understanding so if she were to be featured in Vogue it would be great for not only her musical profile but her style. Vogue have headquarters in the US(Anna Wintour, my chick), UK(Alexandra Shulman), France(Emmanuelle Alt), Brazil(Daniela Falcao), Italy(Franca Sozzani), China(Angelica Cheung), Russia(Victoria Davydova), Australia(Kirstie Clements), Germany(Christiane Arp), Korea(Myung Hee Lee), India(Priya Tanna), Greece(Elena Makris), Turkey(Seda Domanic), Japan(Mitsuko Watanabe), Taiwan(Rosalie Huang), Mexico & Spanish America(Eva Hughes), Spain(Yolanda Sacristan) & Paula Mateus. Imagine, Emine would get world wide recognition in these countries!

Vogue has been described by the New York times as "the worlds most influential fashion magazine". Due to its high status Vogue's influence derives from a range of sources, including its persona and achievements of its US renowned editor Anna Wintour. It also has stakes in charitable and community projects.
